Carson Tahoe Health Marketing & Donor Communications Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice applies specifically to certain marketing, outreach, donor engagement, and fundraising communications conducted by Carson Tahoe Health and Carson Tahoe Health Foundation (“CTH,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).

This Privacy Notice applies to Foundation & Donor Communications and Health & Community Marketing Communications. It is separate from and does not replace the Carson Tahoe Health Website Privacy Policy or the Carson Tahoe Health Notice of Privacy Practices (HIPAA), which govern other activities, services, and uses of information.

This Privacy Notice does not govern clinical, transactional, or operational patient communications related to an individual’s healthcare, patient account, or use of patient communication systems such as Epic and MyChart.

Information We May Collect

Carson Tahoe Health and Carson Tahoe Health Foundation may collect personal information voluntarily provided by individuals when they subscribe to communications, make donations, register for events, participate in programs, request information, or otherwise engage with Carson Tahoe Health or Carson Tahoe Health Foundation.

Depending on the nature of the interaction, this information may include:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • Donation history
  • Event participation
  • Areas of interest
  • Communication preferences
  • Other information voluntarily provided in connection with marketing, donor, or community engagement activities

Some contact information may have originally been collected through prior communication or donor management systems where individuals elected to receive communications from Carson Tahoe Health or Carson Tahoe Health Foundation. These records may be securely migrated to current communication and relationship management platforms.

Communication and Relationship Management Systems

Carson Tahoe Health and Carson Tahoe Health Foundation may use secure relationship management and communication systems, including Salesforce or similar technologies, to maintain contact information, manage donor and community engagement, coordinate events and fundraising initiatives, and distribute communications.

These systems may also collect limited information about engagement with our communications, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. This information may be used to understand engagement, improve the relevance and effectiveness of communications, and manage communication preferences.

Foundation & Donor Communications

Individuals who receive Foundation & Donor Communications may receive Foundation news, fundraising information, charitable giving opportunities, donor updates, event invitations, community impact stories, and other communications related to the mission and activities of Carson Tahoe Health Foundation.

Health & Community Marketing Communications

Individuals who receive Health & Community Marketing Communications may receive health and wellness information, newsletters, information about Carson Tahoe Health programs and services, community event information, educational content, and other marketing or community outreach communications.

These communications are intended for informational, educational, promotional, or community engagement purposes and are separate from communications related to an individual’s healthcare or treatment.

Communication Preferences and Opt-Outs

Recipients may opt out of applicable Foundation & Donor Communications or Health & Community Marketing Communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in an email or by contacting Carson Tahoe Health.

Communication preferences and opt-out requests apply to the applicable category and communication platform through which the request is made. Because Carson Tahoe Health uses different systems and platforms for different types of communications, opting out of one category does not necessarily opt an individual out of all communications from Carson Tahoe Health.

For example:

  • Opting out of Foundation & Donor Communications will stop applicable fundraising, donor engagement, Foundation news, and related communications.
  • Opting out of Health & Community Marketing Communications will stop applicable newsletters, promotional communications, health and wellness outreach, event information, service information, and other marketing communications.

Opting out of Foundation & Donor Communications or Health & Community Marketing Communications does not opt you out of clinical, transactional, or operational patient communications related to your healthcare.

Individuals may continue to receive communications through separate patient-care systems and platforms, including Epic and MyChart, as applicable. These communications may include appointment information and reminders, test result notifications, care-related messages, billing or account information, patient portal notifications, and other communications related to healthcare or a patient account.

Preferences for clinical and patient-care communications may need to be managed separately through the applicable patient communication system or MyChart.

Service Providers

Carson Tahoe Health and Carson Tahoe Health Foundation may work with trusted third-party service providers that support communication distribution, relationship management, donor management, event coordination, and technology services.

These service providers are authorized to use personal information only as necessary to provide services on behalf of Carson Tahoe Health or Carson Tahoe Health Foundation and are expected to maintain appropriate safeguards to protect that information.

Changes to This Privacy Notice

Carson Tahoe Health may update this Privacy Notice periodically to reflect changes in our communication practices, technologies, or applicable requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
