Cancer Services

Nationally acclaimed care. State-of-the-art treatment. Award-winning resources.

 All under one roof.

Prior to 2005, Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare was already privileged to have one of the finest cancer service lines in the country. Yet with the grand opening of an all-new regional medical center and 80-acre medical campus, they saw an opportunity to do something unprecedented in the region – create a complete healthcare experience for cancer patients. The result was the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. For the first time ever in Northern Nevada, patients could experience complete cancer treatment, intervention, support and after-care in one convenient location.

“A lot of healthcare facilities may claim to have a cancer center, but Carson Tahoe Cancer Center is the only true center in the region to offer complete cancer care,” said Ann Proffitt, Supervisor at Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center. “We’ve been recognized for our efforts as the state’s only freestanding cancer center with accreditation with commendation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. That’s an incredible honor, but also a tremendous responsibility.”

Luckily, the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center and its staff have risen to the challenge. Today, the 35,000 square foot facility features centralized care, advanced technology, specially trained nurses, outpatient cancer services through the Carson Tahoe Infusion Center, and an inspiring setting overlooking Eagle Valley. Patients will also find extra comforts like the Chartres Labyrinth and rose garden – ideal escapes for spiritual healing – yoga, a media station, support groups and more. Even better, the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center is located right on the Carson Tahoe Medical Campus adjacent to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. That means patients have easy access to a host of comprehensive healthcare services, technologies, resources and medical experts in more than 35 specialties.

The center is equipped with two full-time oncology private practices – Capitol Oncology and Carson Tahoe Radiation Oncology Associates – which are home to two brand new linear accelerators capable of pinpointing cancer cells to the millimeter, 3D treatment planning, a cutting edge CT scanner/simulator, and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. The Merriner Cottages are 15 “home away from home” cottages, made possible by a generous $2 million donation from the Merriner Family Trust. Last but not least, the nationally recognized Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center empowers cancer patients, family members, friends and caregivers with educational resources, research tools, financial guidance and peer groups.

“Most of us working here are cancer survivors ourselves, so we understand what a patient is going through,” explained Proffitt. “It really helps provide insight, understanding, and, most importantly, compassion for our patients.”

The Carson Tahoe Cancer Center simply wouldn’t exist without the ongoing support of a caring community. The center is 100% funded by the generosity of donors. Thanks to our supporters’ continuing philanthropy, the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center is building a legacy of quality care for future generations.
